Funeral

The band was assigned a military funeral last Saturday.

All I know was that a NSF collapsed while playing soccer in camp and died.

While at the funeral, a friend commented how sad it was for his friend to be the coffin bearers. I thought it is an honour, at least it is the last thing you can do for your departed friend.

Little did I realize that the deceased was actually someone I knew from secondary school. He was Perry Koh.

A friend asked whether I was affected by funerals and I said no at that time. Come to think about it, it actually does. I had been to quite a number of funerals during the course of my job. From military funerals with full honours to a state funeral, I've seen most of it. No matter what age the deceased is, it is always heart wrenching to be there.

How ironic it was to learn that I was at an ex-school mate's funeral without realizing it.

Rest in peace.
